This list has been a random note on my computer. Over the past 3 years, my borderline obsession with his YouTube channel has motivated me to create a yearly list of my own, albeit not as dense. Every year, Anthony Fantano reviews (literally) hundreds of albums in order to build up to his highly anticipated year-end list. It wasn’t until college when I discovered YouTube music reviewer Anthony Fantano, AKA The Needledrop, that I became so invested in discovering new music (most of which, was hip-hop). I had a couple of artists that I liked whose upcoming albums I would anticipate, but I never knew where to look to discover new artists. Eventually, Pandora got wind of my arbitrage and closed the loophole, halting my hip-hop odyssey in the process. Since I was only afforded a limited number of song “skips” per station, my way of gaming the system was to have as many similar stations as possible. Lupe Fiasco Radio became Kid Cudi Radio, which became Kanye West Radio and then Kendrick Lamar Radio. In 9th grade, I started exploring on Pandora radio. It wasn’t until one fateful day in 7th grade that I heard Lupe Fiasco’s Superstaron the middle school announcements (I kid you not), that I was exposed to hip-hop. Growing up, I liked alternative rock, my favorite band was Coldplay, and all 100 of the songs I had (most of them coming from my dad), were stored on my iPod nano. A lot of my friends from college know that I like listening to hip-hop and rap music.
